Then my father sat down beside him, put his arm around my brother’s shoulder, and said, ‘Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.’”

Read Bird by Bird. Love the ants one, too--and it's shorter.
You might take a look at FlyLady.net. I couldn't stand the volume of material she sent for more than a couple of weeks--but she changed how I do things and I did it through baby steps.
And, I just got a book today that I'm sure is going to fix my life completely :-) and it's also about doing it bird by bird. It's called Simple Steps: 10 Weeks to Getting Control of Your Life. And it claims to work for Health, Weight, Home, Spirit. Sounds good to me!
